The Nitty Gritty of Healthy Homes

Yes it is more grit that you can imagine. Have you ever got up in the morning as the sun is coming up and seen the dust in the early rays (or last rays) of the sun? Yes there is loads of dust around us. Even when we cannot see it. So the first step in an ecofriendly home is to ensure that the items we use to clean with are not only good for the environment but also good for us. Many of the home cleaning sprays we have today are not eco friendly. Not only that but little by little they damage our health too. So it is very important to check labels or even go as far as making your own cleaners. Cleaners can be made using simple things like vinegar, lemon juice, bicarbonate of soda, borax, washing soda , alcohol and salt. Using these items makes a huge difference to your bank balance as well as the health of and within your home. If you need to know some recipes emailme and I will be pleased to help you out.

So if we have a healthy clean home what more can we do to be eco friendly. We can find Natural sources of power! But first and formost we need to remember to swich off lights and stand by electrical objects. Hey this may be a schlep but it does save you money. Then we can look at where you get your energy supply. Is your electricity generated from Wind, wave or sun? If not it is time to switch providers or accounts, or take this to its logical conclusion and install windvanes, solar energy. Do you realize that many people now get paid for their supply instead of pay ing for it. Yes, thats right you can simple sell any excess power back into the power grid. Suppliers will even help you get set up to do this. Now we are getting on well. But is there any other way of being eco friendly and healthier ? Of course there are ways of doing so !

Natural Living

It really is strange that so many people find excuses when asked to live using more healthy products, and healthier practices. How many people these days really do enjoy a healthy life style?

I found a friend sitting in the park with her children having a picnic. Yes they were having a lovely day out side enjoying the sun and the food they had brought with them. The children were happily squabbling over the assortment of play stations they had brought with them, while mother sorted out lunch. Crisps, coke and burgers for the youngest two and a barrel of chicken to be shared out between Mother and the two teenagers. Having had a short game of football these teens gave up trying not to go too near local dogs, elderly ladies taking a walk and toddlers on tricycles; and sat down with a small notebook laptop to enter the world of Zwinky and chat to their friends.

Is this really a healthy outing ? No not at all. Getting outside was good, fresh air and sunshine have always been top of the list. But play stations and laptops on a picnic defeat the reason for getting out and having exercise, appreciating the world around you - nature, people, blue skies with clouds wafting past looking rather like straggling bits of hair tossed from a comb. Did the family know anything about their surroundings? What type of tree they were sitting under, the names of the other plants nearby ? Probably not. Did they think about their diet and the need for exercise? Probably not..... In this blog of mine I intend to explore the realms of simple living at home. A home full of warmth and fun, natural and homemade products, quick and easy and healthy meals - Recipes, for food and cleaners .
